PARISH STAFF - Biographies

I am the third of four children and was born, in Cincinnati Ohio, on September 18, 1941. After eight years in a catholic grade school run by Dominican nuns, and four years in a diocesan high school run by the Marianist’s, I spent one year in preparation to become a Dominican priest. I returned home and spent two years earning my Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (AS-MET) from the Ohio College of Applied Science (OCAS) and then ten years at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Evening College to obtain my Bachelor of Science Engineering (BSE) degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending night school I married Barb in 1965 and we had four children (two boys then two girls) over the next eleven years. Our oldest son and two daughters are now married and we have nine grandchildren born between September 1995 and May 2007.

In grade school I played on the schools football, basketball and baseball teams. In high school I played on the parish basketball and softball teams in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) leagues. At OCAS I played on the schools basketball team in the Southern Ohio Industrial League. As our children grew up I was involved at various levels of coaching their baseball, basketball, and soccer teams. For about eighteen years I refereed soccer at the recreational, high school, and travel league games and tournaments. Since my seven by-pass, open heart surgery in February 1998, the only sports activities I do now is play golf, and attend most of the travel league and tournament basketball and soccer games played by granddaughter and grandson who live in Crystal Lake.

My involvement in church activities began as a grade school alter boy which evolved into CYO and Sodality activities in high school. During the one year with the Dominicans, I was assistant sacristant. While working on my BSE degree, I got involved with a parish young adults group then as lector and Eucharistic minister at mass then as a regular presider at morning communion services . After graduation I quickly became involved with Marriage Encounter, and Cursillo and followed eventually with Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP), the Deaconate and finally Light of the World (LOTW).

Through the years as a Deacon I have been many places and done a variety of things. I started out in a moderate size suburban parish then went to a small rural parish before ending up in a large suburban parish. It was during this time I obtained my Masters in Religious Studies. After about 10 years I moved to up state New York where I worked with two priests to cover three (one tiny and two small) parishes. A little over two years after going to New York the company was bought out and I returned to Cincinnati for two months only to be offered a job in Arlington Height with Motorola in September of 1997. I had the privelage of working with two liturgust pastors during my first five years in Illinois. Since being ordained I have prepared Marriage cases for submittal to the Marriage Tribunal, written, taught and presented a Baptismal Preparation course, led mixed faith couples through the marriage preparation process, done grave site blessing in a secular cemetery, conducted wake and grave side services, witnessed marriages and marriage vow renewals and baptized children and adults.
